Are you scared of travelling in a group tour?

So, I’m guessing you’ve either just taken the plunge and hit that “confirm” button on a group tour (if so, YAY), or you’re seriously considering it.

However, there’s a little voice in the back of your head asking you what the hell you’re doing. Telling you that it’s too scary, that you don’t really want to do it.

Well, just hold on there before you drown your sorrows with a glass of Merlot. News flash: this is completely normal. And it happens to every single person joining a group tour for the first time.

To help simmer those nerves, here are five common fears and how to handle them. This group adventure is bound to be one of the most epic experiences of your life, so let’s get going (you can bring the Merlot, if you like).

“What if I don’t get on with anyone?”

Hands up if you hate speaking to friendly people and would prefer to just hide away in your room? No, didn’t think so. If you’re open-minded and genuinely interested in people and their stories, there’s no way you can’t have a great time on one of our group trips.

We only do adventures for busy solo travelling professionals in their 30s and 40s (hint: that’s you) meaning there’s going to be loads of like-minded people in the same boat (sometimes literally). You’re at the same life stage, with the same hectic careers, same aspirations and the same worries – hello, unaffordable housing. You’ve even got some hobbies in common – you all love adventure,

We know it’s so hard to develop friendships when everyone is busy. But when you come on a group adventure with us, we remove all those pesky everyday obstacles – there’s no Northern Line commute or bills for you to sort out. Instead, you’ll fill your time doing epic things with epic people.

These kind of experiences bring together people quickly but naturally, and create meaningful, long-lasting friendships. Read some of our reviews, or check out our traveller videos, and you’ll see what we mean.

“What if I hate it?”

You took a look at our website, right? You loved the look of an awesome adventure, of the far-flung destinations we take you to and the unforgettable experiences we offer along the way. Well, think of Flash Pack like a can of beans (bear with us) … we are what it says on the tin.

Plus, what’s not to love about being taken care of, and only having to worry about what to wear that day? This may be a luxury you haven’t experienced in years so take our advice and seize the opportunity with both hands.

And if there are a few elements of the group tour that you don’t like? No worries. We’re not here to make you do anything you don’t want to do. Just don’t do that bit, and take part in the things you’re really interested in. Your adventure is whatever you make it.

“I haven’t shared a room since uni!”

We feel you, but there’s really nothing to worry about. Most of your group tour will be spent out exploring – you’ll crash so hard at the end of each day that you’ll soon forget about your concerns over sharing.

Plus, sharing a room is fun. Lots of our roomies really connect, and that’s how deep relationships are formed. It might have something to do with the shared space (or the post-Mai Tai chats that go on until dawn).

80% of our customers opt to share, choosing to spend that extra dollar on massages and Margaritas. However, if sharing just isn’t for you, that’s cool too. You can simply opt for a single supplement.

“I would hate being told what to do”

I used to think this too, and believe me – I’m usually the one who tells everyone else what to do, yet I really relish the opportunity to give myself a total break.

If you’re a decision maker in your everyday life, you may well surprise yourself when that burden is suddenly lifted off your shoulders. It’s OK to relax and let us do the hard work and organising for you – it’s what we’re here for.

There’s a real joy in having every detail of a trip arranged for you, from in-country transfers to boutique hotels, unique experiences and those little extras we throw in to surprise and delight. It means you don’t have to stress about planning, and you can get under the skin of a place more fully than you might do if you were trying to pull together all the research and logistics yourself.

At the same time, though, Flash Pack trips have quite a loose structure. Most of our travellers are quite independent types, so there’s room in each trip for you to go off and do your own thing for a day/evening, if that’s what you want.

“What if I’m not fit enough?”

If the only marathon you’re interested in involves binge-watching your favourite Netflix show, don’t worry. All of our group tours are created with busy professionals in their 30s and 30s in mind – we know fitting in time to work out is hard, so we don’t expect you to be Mo Farah.

Some Flash Pack adventures are more challenging than others – for example, Peru is more physical than Sri Lanka – but if you have a moderate level of fitness, you’ll enjoy our activities. If you are generally fairly active and a three-hour walk in the countryside has you running for the hills in a good way, you’ll love our adventures.

We like to get stuck into any destination we visit and really experience the country in which ever way we can, and that includes cycling, hiking, kayaking, paddle-boarding, cross country skiing – you get the idea.

Things that may leave you a bit sweaty at the end of the day; but we want you to feel challenged, not exhausted. We have faith that you’ll be more than able to handle anything we throw at you on a group tour if you come armed with a determined mindset. If you have any concerns, just get in touch.
