Wildlife-spot in Peru's Amazon from a remote jungle lodge
WHAT IT'S ABOUT
Our Peru jungle trip is all about immersing yourself in the Amazon’s wildlife from all angles. Puerto Maldonado is a gateway to the southern Amazon jungle. From the town, you’ll take a drive and then a riverboat along the Tambopata River, seeing the jungle in all its glory from the water.
You’ll stay at a posada (lodge) which has conservation efforts at heart. Owned by the indigenous Infierno community, guardians of the rainforest, you’ll have the chance to learn about the medicinal plants and the Amazon’s flora. You’ll also be able hike through the surrounding dense jungle and have a bird’s eye view from the towering height of the Canopy Tower.
YOUR ADVENTURE
You’ll arrive at your Peru jungle lodge on the edge of the Tambopata River by boat. It’s then time to set off on a group hike, winding through the verdant trails, before a climb up the steps of the lofty Canopy Tower. At the top, you’ll hear calls of macaws and parrots, and witness wildlife dwelling in the treetops.
Next day, you’ll head off at first light for a hike and boat trip to Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake, home to a family of giant river otters, which you’ll have a chance to spot from a catamaran. Then you’ll learn about the medicinal forest plants, with an optional night walk to spot nocturnal mammals, more active under the cover of darkness.
WHAT OUR COMMUNITY SAYS
“Flash Pack’s Peru itinerary was 100% unique – it had so much variety in it, including truly characterful hotels that I wouldn’t typically stay in,” says DJ, designer and Flashpacker, Hugh Waldren. “It was an awesome experience and it definitely stretched my comfort zone.”
“Soon into the trip, we embarked on our three-day Amazon escape, staying at the eco lodge, where rooms have an open fourth wall looking out onto the Tambopata Reserve. It was surreal to go from London city life to the middle of nowhere spotting caimans and monkeys, all set to the soundtrack of the rainforest at night”.
HOW TO BOOK IT
This Amazon jungle tour is bookable as part of Flash Pack’s Spectacular Peru adventure, which also includes dining at Lima’s best restaurants and a Peruvian cooking class in Barranco, mountain biking to Incan Ruins in Sacred Valley and witnessing the world-famous Machu Picchu.
