About your trip
Imagine a landscape pierced with glaciers, where striking fjords sink into serene blue lakes. This is Norway, your ticket to pure nature escapism.
Your long weekend begins in Bergen, a charming city nestled between vast mountains and fjords – your gateway to wild, beautiful Norway. From here, you’ll venture beyond the city and hike across Jostedal Glacier. You’ll sea-kayak through the fjords of Lustrafjorden, and you’ll take a boat ride into uncharted wilderness.
This is five days of immersion in Norway’s pure landscapes, which you’ll experience with a group of like-minded adventurers. Are you ready?
Welcome to Bergen, a picturesque city on the banks of a North Sea inlet, overlooking a landscape of mountains and fjords. An airport transfer will greet you off your flight and take you into the city. We recommend landing early, to give yourself plenty of time to explore the characterful streets. Take some time to explore its art galleries, meander down to its UNESCO-status waterfront or seek out the best seafood along Fisketorget Harbour. You could equally catch a cable-car up to the peak of Fløyen for panoramic views over the city and bay.
Enjoy a scenic drive this morning along the coastal roads of Route 16. With a quick stop at Tvindefossen Waterfall and the UNESCO-status Nærøydalen Valley, you’ll arrive in Gudvangen, where you’ll embark on a boat trip across the fjords. Make your way across the open waters to Skjerdal Wharf, where you’ll hike 90 minutes up to a mountain goat farm. Here, you’ll learn about local methods of cheese production (with an exclusive opportunity to eat it, of course), before driving onwards to Marifjøra – a quaint village in Lustrafjorden.
*For certain departures, you’ll be staying in Førde instead of Marifjøra. The itinerary will remain the same.
Today’s star activity will see you boat across a glacial lake into Jostedalsbreen National Park, home to the mighty Jodestal Glacier (the largest in mainland Europe – which you’ll be tackling with crampons and axe). Your expert guide will lead you across the glacier, as you crawl through ice caves and navigate deep crevasses. Enjoy a picnic en route, before taking the rest of the day to hike through the pristine forests and mountains of the national park.
*For the departures staying in Førde, you’ll hike across Haugabreen Glacier instead.
This morning will see you dive straight into four hours of sea-kayaking across Lustrafjorden. The turquoise water here flows fresh from a glacial melt further upstream, forming an inlet of cool beauty. Keep an eye out for seals and porpoises as you go, with views of the jagged mountains unfolding before you. Then, you’ll make the journey back to Bergen, where your adventure began. Settle into your final evening by raising a glass of local beer, enjoying a farewell dinner in a charming family-run restaurant.
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have the morning to explore Bergen at a leisurely pace. Then, we’ll arrange a group transfer to take you to the airport. It’s then over to you to arrange your flight onto your next destination. Looking for further Scandi inspiration? Take a peek at our adventures in Iceland, come snow or shine.
