About your trip

Introducing the best of Bali, combined with the off-grid beauty of its lesser-known neighbours (dragons and pink-sand beaches inclusive).

Your trip begins in Bali, the gateway to your Indonesian adventure. Here, you’ll uncover its ornate temples, cycle through shimmering rice paddies and sail to Nusa Penida. It’s then onto Flores, where you’ll snorkel alongside manta rays and set off to uncover the real-life dragons of Komodo Island. You’ll round it all off with an evening in Bali, sampling the best of the island’s cuisine on a gastronomic vespa tour.

Expect the best of Bali infused with a touch of the uncharted. Are you in?

Touch-down in Bali

Welcome to Indonesia. Your first stop will be Bali, where a private transfer will greet you at the airport and whisk you off to your hotel. Here, you’ll meet your fellow travellers and guide, before heading out for your first meal together.

Balinese temples and cycling sights

This morning, you’re off to Besakih Temple – the ‘Mother Temple of Bali’. Built into the slopes of Mount Agung, this stairway complex is the largest and most sacred Hindu temple in Bali. Admire spectacular views of the rainforest and rice paddies from the highest point of the temple. Then you’ll take a 15km bike ride through the surrounding countryside, cycling through rice terraces and plantations. Enjoy lunch at an organic restaurant, before returning to the hotel, where the rest of the afternoon is all yours.

Remote beaches and barbecue lunch

This morning will see you take a scenic boat ride over to Nusa Penida, an island of unspoilt beaches, craggy cliffs and clear blue waters. Take a few hours to explore its secluded beaches and bays, before enjoying a barbecue lunch of grilled fish, rice and potatoes. After lunch, make your way to Crystal Bay, whose sweeping shores provide the perfect spot for an afternoon swim.

From Bali to Labuan Bajo

Catch a morning flight over to Labuan Bajo, a fishing town located on the western shore of Flores just across the water from Komodo. On arrival, take the rest of the afternoon to relax or explore at your leisure. In the evening, head out for a light sunset walk up the hill, soaking up the sights of twilight on the island.

Dragon encounters and pink sand beaches

This morning, take a speed boat across the water to the UNESCO-status Komodo National Park. Here, you’ll come face to face with the famous Komodo dragons, who dominate these shores with impunity. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the national park, then make your way to Padar Island. Find your bearings with a light trek through the volcanic terrain, then the rest of the afternoon is yours to relax on its unique pink-sand beaches. Feeling active? You can opt for an afternoon of sea-kayaking (this will be at an extra cost), or spend the afternoon snorkelling around the bay.

Snorkelling with manta rays

This morning, you’ll sail from Labuan Bajo to Manta Point, where you’ll spend a few hours snorkelling alongside manta rays. Take a motorboat over to a couple more islands, disembarking into the water to snorkel around. Return to Labuan Bajo for the afternoon, where you’ll have a few hours to unwind, before gathering for a barbecue dinner.

A vespa culinary tour

We’ve left this morning free for you to spend as you please. Catch your flight back to Bali at midday, where you’ll enjoy lunch with your group before a restful afternoon. Then, as evening falls, you’ll be whisked away to dinner and cocktails on a vespa culinary safari, winding up in one of the many bars in the area for farewell drinks.

Goodbye, Indonesia

After breakfast at the hotel, it’s over to you to make your own way to your next destination. Looking for further travel inspiration? We think you may like our Bali adventure. Or encounter the charms of Southeast Asia on our whistle-stop tour of Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Important Notes

Fly in and out of Denpasar International Airport (DPS). Please arrive before 4pm on day 1, although we will arrange an airport transfer for you at whichever time you arrive. Feel free to leave anytime on day 8.

The Komodo Islands are famed for their wildlife but please be aware that wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.

The infrastructure and facilities in Flores will not be of the same standard as those found on Bali. We love that the island is untouched and wild but it is not for everyone.

During the high season (July – September), the internal flight for this departure is in high demand so to avoid disappointment, we advise booking 3 months ahead of your departure date. For all bookings less than three months until departure, this trip will be ‘On Request’.

Please be aware that the itinerary, activities and hotels are subject to change. These changes can happen with little notice due to availability, poor weather, seasonal changes, or other circumstances beyond our control – but we’ll always do our best to ensure it has little impact on your experience. From time to time, we may also make changes to your itinerary to try out new ideas and keep things fresh and exciting.
